“In the Spotlight” features selected members from our talented group of musicians and gives them a chance to toot their own horn.

August Spotlight:

Clay Canada

Clay Canada begins his tenth year with Jackson Area Community Bands this season.  He performs on bass clarinet in the concert band, and on tenor sax in the jazz band.

Clay is a 1975 graduate of Lambuth University.  After teaching for one-year, Clay followed his love of all things wooden and began working at Bruce Hardwood Floors, where he spent 11 years before moving on to City Lumber.  Clay worked for City Lumber for another 11 years before he finally realized that he was "supposed to be teaching music, not selling lumber."  So, in 1997, he returned to education and has had "a large time most days ever since."

Clay and his wife, Nancy (Meadows) Canada, celebrate a phenomenal 30 years of marriage this month.  They have two children:  Julie, who resides in Nashville and is married to Jonathan Wilburn; and Jared, who recently began working for Lambuth University as technical director of the theatre.
