Our Purpose:
The Jackson Area Community Band Association was organized to provide adult and student musicians performance opportunities in concert and Big Band settings.
The band first met in 1994 at Jackson State Community College. In the summer of 2000, the band moved to Union University, reorganized, and became an independent, non-profit association.
JACB is a member of the Association of Concert Bands, a national organization for community and civic bands. Also visit us on Facebook.

Membership:
Our members range in age from high school students to senior citizens with a wide variety of occupations and interests. Membership in the Symphonic Winds is open to anyone of high school age and older who can play a minimum of grade 3 (or higher) music. Membership in the Jackson Swing Orchestra is limited to availability of openings and requires an invitation from the director. Our members pay a yearly fee of $35.00, or $20.00 per semester. To encourage young players, dues for high school and college students are WAIVED for the first year or two semesters. After that, student dues are $15.00 per year or $10.00 per semester.
The Symphonic Winds is the symphonic arm of the JACB and rehearses on the first and third Mondays during the Spring and Fall semesters from 7:00 to 8:30 PM in the band room, Jennings Hall, at Union University.
The Jackson Swing Orchestra plays “big band” music and rehearses on the second and fourth Mondays during the Spring and Fall semesters from 7:00 to 8:30 PM in the band room, Jennings Hall, at Union University.
Performances:
The Symphonic Winds and Swing Orchestra perform two – three times a year, usually giving a Spring and Fall concert. Performances are also held throughout the area at various colleges, schools and churches. The bands have performed at city festivals and have been a part of Jackson Parks and Recreation Department’s “Concert in the Park” series, which is held at Highland Park. In September 2013, selected members of the Symphonic Winds also performed in an orchestra with a choir of almost 400 members at Casey Jones Village Amphitheater during “Worship Under the Stars,” a Night of Worship and Celebration, sponsored by the Englewood Baptist Church of Jackson.
